The Metaverse

Imagine your favourite clothes shop in the Metaverse. Everything in that store will be personalised to you. If you’re an adult, you won’t have to walk through the Kid's section. You won’t have to sort through clothes that aren’t your size, and everything you see on the shelves will be of a style that you like. Sound cool?
There is a lot of debate around what constitutes the term “metaverse”. The most common definition of the Metaverse is that it is a simulated digital universe and that AR and VR are the realms it’ll take place in.

AR & VR

The best modern example of Augmented Reality (AR) is the game, Pokemon GO. With Pokemon GO, you can walk around your hometown, hold up your phone and see a Pokemon in front of you, which you then catch. So AR is an experience where digital inputs enhance your experience of the physical world. You meet computer-generated characters in the real world.

Virtual Reality (VR) goes a step further. With VR, the whole environment you see as a user is computer generated. It makes you feel as if you are immersed in these surroundings. The best example of this is the Oculus, and the games you can play on there. You wear a headset and get lost in a new, VR world.

The Building Blocks

There are two major technological innovations that are the building blocks of the metaverse. They have been mentioned in this book previously. They are NFTs and digital currencies.
